MEHDI YAHYAVI

Mehdi Yahyavi is a Bay Area Artist from San Francisco, California. Mehdi was born in Iran in 1954 and is also a dual American/Canadian citizen who has travelled extensively throughout his life. He has worked in numerous mediums prominently as a painter over the past 40 years, and has exhibited his art in Canada, USA, France, Iran and Germany. Mehdi’s art training started at a young age. In 1973 he joined a collective of prominent artists in Iran whose objective was traveling over the country to paint and sketch pictures of the life and exhibit their art in the cities. In 1980 he moved to France and took courses in the school of Art Decorative in Paris, where he worked with master artists to learn techniques such as Etching and mural Fresco. Later, he travelled extensively in Europe, connecting with other artists and exploring the art scene in the museums and galleries in Paris, Rome, Florence, Madrid, London, Berlin and Amsterdam. He compiled an extensive portfolio through his travels, sketching and painting people and sceneries.

The early period of Mehdi’s art includes realistic painting employing natural compositions with classical techniques. His interest in the themes and stories of mythology and Persian literature is evident in his works. The exploration of spirituality and their execution in visual form drives Mehdi to new horizons of thought and symbolism. His engineering background and love of physics and science has allowed him to elegantly combine the modern scientific understanding of nature with man’s ontological exploration of the life. Mehdi’s paintings have evolved a unique symbolic language of poetically figurative lines that dance across the canvas.

Mehdi is an active artist in the Bay Area and continues to manifest his ideas in his figurative paintings which he periodically exhibits in Bay Area galleries in Berkeley, Danville and San Francisco.
